This is the thing I want to do most right now. I watched Shark Week and would really like to see some sharks in the wild but the charters are more than a grand.

So that's going to be the only way unless my dad buys a boat, finally.

How do they expect people to see what sharks are really like if it's almost impossible to see them in their element?

You do not say where you live but you could always chum one up yourself.Dont expect the same reaction as on sharkweek shows but it can be very fun.Down in Florida you can see some good action with the bull shark from secluded area's away from ppl.
This is a no play deal and can be very dangerous so be carefull.

On Long Island, a boater needs to travel at least 12 to 15 miles before encountering a shark. The chum is called a chum slick.

oh you can chum right off the shore but don't do it where people are swimming because they will become bait lol...Sharks have an outstanding sense of smell and can detect a blood trail from miles away according to my old man! if you can rent a boat thats the best way to do it but if your doing it off shore you can do it at night or something and just throw buckets of anything meaty/fishy and blood filled and you'll see some sharks come up right next to the shore

you dont say where you live but here in florida you can get on just about any flat close to deep water and see bonet heads and small black tips and hammerheads. to get to see the larger sharks like the bull shark you would probably have to chum how ever this weekend i had a live ladyfish on a float thrashing around on a tarpon rig and had a large bull take it and run off about 200yrd of line before wearing threw my leader.
