people yawn coz there is insufficient oxygen to their brain. therefore when people around us yawn, we yawns too... reason being the oxygen where we are lacks oxygen. as for the case of yawning while watching people yawn in TV... I can't explain that... maybe it is really psychological??

All the medical journals I have read state that there is no physiological data to support the idea that yawns are "contagious".

I am not sure why yawns spread like wildfire, but it was recently discoverd that the real purpose for yawning is to cool our brain.
That is the function it is intended for. So, when on person yawns, cause thier brain is getting warm.

I don't care what science says, maybe they just haven't discovered why yet, but throughout life's experiences I am most certainly convinced that yawns are contagious!!!!!! 100% certain!

I dont know about scientifically, But I have been sitting in my livingroom with my dogs when 1 of them have yawned and before long all 3 of us were doing it.
