Well, it's difficult still to find covens. Even though many Wiccans are becoming more comfortable with their faith, most are still reluctant to come out of the 'broom closet' because of fear of persecution.
I'd say your best bet would be to look up groups on the internet for your area. Then ask around on there for some covens. Or you could look around a local Pagan/Occult shop. There are usually cards for Wiccans and Pagans who could possibly help you find a local coven.
The latter is my preferred choice. It was how I found one, and it is much safer, in my opinion. However, the internet will always yield some sort of bounty, for better or worse, so it was worth mentioning.
Congratulations on your choice to join a coven and share in your experiences!

I agree with witchvox.com to find where like minded go to meet.

A coven is for want of a better word like a clique, people who want to be together to perform rituals and create a certain dynamic. From what I understand usually a coven will only invite those who they want as members.

Because of the simple fact life is in consistent change covens also come and go, some may last months to a few years.

You need to get to meeting people in the community and then you may get invited to participate in some coven activities, public rituals might be first before private rituals and celebrations.

Covens can be likened to groups of friends, friends plan to spend time together, just like time spent together in a coven but the level of trust can be more depending on what workings are being done.

Elf, you don't have to be a part of a "coven" or anything to be Wiccan and you don't have to go to church to be a Christian. It's like they say "If going to church makes you Christian, then does going to a garage make you a car?" it's all just a big business. There is no statement that you have attend a service or whatever to be this or that. You can be a perfectly good Wiccan in or out of a covenant.

Most covens are not advertising, but you might find some local groups through the Witches of the World section at Witchvox:

Just use the pull-down menus on the left to find individuals, groups, shops, and events in your area.
