Persistence pay off. It shows the employer that you want to work. There have been some applications that I have put aside as a non hire and took a second look because the person followed up on their application. Do not give up.

There is a possibility that the person who answered the phone did not relay the message. It is always a good idea to follow up with a potential employer. If you are having difficulty getting messages to the manager, perhaps you should try a letter. I had a similar situation, except I had an interview and the hr person did not show up, I left a message for her to call me back and she didn't. I did not follow up because I thought that was unprofessional. Two weeks later got a better job offer with more pay. Don't get discouraged there is a job out there for YOU!

My husband swears by call-backs. He got his first couple jobs when he was young because he would show up weekly and ask if they had a job for him yet. They eventually hired him.
I, on the other hand, try to strategize the call-backs. I don't want to appear too head-strong or unwilling to follow directions (such as "we will call you if we are interested").
It is important to demonstrate that you are genuinely interested in and desire the position you applied for.
Make sure you are asking for and speaking to the person who makes the hiring decisions though. It is not always the owner or head manager.
I wouldn't call more than once a day, but as was suggested before, try different times in the day. You will make a more favorable impression if you are not interrupting anything important they might have going on.

If you already waited two weeks or more I would go down in person and not call them on the phone. It is harder to ignore you when your infont of them.
I would also hope that this is not your only appliaction. I had to place over 800 resumes at various locations like monster and company web sites just to land the $80k job that I have now.

Can't hurt to call and ask again. If the manager isn't there, don't leave your name or a message, say you will call back, what time would be best to reach him?

Call again, but at a different time so maybe you don't get the same woman you talked to before.
