1996 Ford Taurus GL produces no heat or cool air.

Air motor responds to all four speed control settings with a low to high pitch whirring, but no air is moved. Engine temperature normal even for extended driving periods [hours of driving]. On AC setting, it sounds like compressor is engages.

Just before it stopped working it sounded like something in the air system was banging around. Now, it occasionally will bang around some more, but still without moving any air [hot or cold].

My uneducated guess is that the fan/blower has stopped turning or is damaged, or there is a belt that helps this fan/blower to turn which has broken/come unattached.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

The blower wheel, or squirrel cage as its called, has split at the center and the motor shaft is spinning in the middle without turning it. Replace it and you will have air again.

if you can hear the blower motor kick on then my guess is that the fan is damaged or fell off
