don't you think this is cruel to your dog? how would you like to be given up just cause your schedule is tight. My suggestion is learn how to schedule you time and work smarter not harder. if you had these interests before you should not have gotten the dog in the 1st place Do you know how many shelters, rescues and people including myself, foster and see this everyday? If you really must give your pet up try petfinder.com and tell them you need to find a home, these folks will work with you to make sure your pet gets a good home and they will not put the pet down....In the future don't get any more pets unless you can make a life time commitment to them. you and your parents should be ashamed of yourselves.

We get a dog, or a cat and we know at the time of purchase or adoption that we will have him as long as he lives. Life just doesn't work that way. It's all about choices. I can tell you that you shouldn't have taken on the responsibility of something with the brain power of more than a fish, but you know that. You are still under Dad's roof and he is paying the bills. If he doesn't want the responsibility of a dog, then that's it. He's obviously a good dad, you're doing very well. Dogs do very well 'transferring love,' just make sure you are giving him to a good stable home and that they are going to keep him forever. Don't go out of your way to see him, it's better for him and his new family if you let them adjust to each other without him wondering why you are leaving him there.

i just got a puppy 20days ago, i work from 6pm-sometimes 7am. i made a commitment to him to be there not be tired or cranky when i get home. i have even cried thinking i made a mistake in getting him but for the past 20 nites i get home & he is ecstatic to see me & i know i made the right decision in having him w/ me. i dont spend that much time on the days i work but there r things called DAYS OFF!! i make it MY BUSINESS to give him ALOT of attention. what i am trying to say is this- you have weekends off from school, school holidays, snow days, etc etc etc. don't be a quitter on ur dog.at least TRY. give it until January'08 & see how everyone is coping w/ it. cute has nothing to do w/ it, u took on a responsibility don't make a bad mistake. 8 months ago u were in school so whats the difference now? pets r like babies whats going to happen when u have a baby & it gets rough do u give it away? hey dad!? u didnt give ur kid away when things got alittle too hectic or did u?

Just because you have all those things to do, doesn't mean you won't have time for your dog. I had similar activities and I had time for my animals. Your dog can sit with you while you do homework, and I'm sure you can spare 5-10 minutes to play with your dog before you go to bed or before you start your homework. You can always work around giving up an animal for that reason. But if you positively have to give him up, give him to a friend or family member that you are positive will take good care of him. And I saw someone else say don't give it to an animal shelter, that's a smart statement. Don't because they do put them to sleep after a while if they are not adopted. But, you should at least wait and see if you are going to have time for him or not, you can't automatically assume you won't.

If you have no time for the dog and wont be able to spend proper time with him then you should find a better place for him, even if its painful. In the end you have to do whats best for the dog. Im sorry, but next time please think about things like this before you get an animal. They also get attached and Im sure its not going to be easy on anyone (including the pup) ... No, your not making a mistake.

they have a dog rental service now, you get one for a certain time and return it. Seriously, maybe your dad can do that next time. Dogs are supposed to be kept until they die, not just when they are convient. I am not judging you guys, just seems like getting one was not a good decision long term...
I am sorry for you and your situation. It is terrible. My dad got rid of my german shepherd when I was a kid, his name was Sport. He just didn't want the dog either. You can always love him, whether he lives with you or not. if you can keep him, do at least try.
Just because you have basketball doesn't mean you don't have time for a short walk or a game of fetch every day, right after you clean up after him....

One never does (that's the problem). You will most likely be second guessing your dad for a long time. Here's where you learn something though and don't repeat the mistake with your kids. Learn to say no. Your dad should have never bought the pup in the first place since the lack of time was easy to forecast.

If you don't have time for him, how much could you love him? I'm afraid the dog's welfare is more important than your inconsistant emotions and actions. Your dog does not have the choice as to where he lives or how he lives. If you are attached to him, how do you think he feels? This is, as far as he knows, his home. Do you think that's remotely fair to toss him away like that? For shame!

So, why did you get him in the first place? Kids are a lot of work too, but parents can't just give them up... He deserves to have a good home. Even if that's not with you. He'll get over you. Get over him. Let him go.
