It's been a while...

Slide the seat completely forwards. In the middle of the track on the under-side there are small leaf-style springs holding catches. Press them in (up) and continue to slide the seat forwards and off the front of the tracks.

***Side note...the '71 SB rocked. Older, cooler style steering wheel & horn ring, flat windshield, and classic older style dash. All with the added trunk space. I loved mine. Wish I still had it. Maybe YOU have it??? Sapphire blue with a gear lever extension. Traded it in 1980 when the Jetta came out. Worst decision I ever made.***

They slide forward. There's a stop on the inner track that you push down on to slide the seat off. been a long time since I've pulled one though.

Slide them forward and then just unblot the track, and get it down there and rip the track off.

I dont remember but i thought they slide either forward or back and then up..........but its been a while since i have even worked on an old bug

David's right. The stop is in the lead edge of the track.
