You need to make sure he gets plenty of exercise during the day so he will sleep good at night.

This is tough. During the day maybe take your dog on a long walk so its a little more tired at night. Also Chicken or turkey broth has a sleep effect on any animal. Dont feed the dog a lot but feed it a little bit over its food before bedtime and your dog should sleep almost as well as you as long as things are quiet where you live. There are many ways to do that I just named a few good ones.

Do something with him thru the day, exercise, training.. walking.. A tired dog is a good dog.. Wear him out and he'll have no choice but to sleep.

take a long walk before dog's bedtime each night that will tired the doggie out and will sleep

You dont make him/her go to sleep it just comes naturally.
