gasoline is in the tank and will not burn (much less explode) until it mixes with air (oxygen) . Any gas that leaks out of the tank will burn. Gas in the tank will just sit there. Now if the tank ruptures and spills gas all over then you will have an explosion.

Well if you've ever watched Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel then you'd see why. The gas in the car doesn't explode like a movie, gas just burns more than anything. Also if you've ever watched NASCAR then you'd see plenty of vehicles catch fire. There may be an initial "explosion" but after that it just burns like crazy. Now if there is NOS on a car then be prepared for a boom. NOS is alot more flammable than gasoline.

The examine engine easy frequently exhibits that gasoline cap isn't on tightly. try turning it clockwise a minimum of three clicks and using for fifty miles. If that would not help, replace the gasoline cap and the gasket and using yet another 50 miles. If that still would not help, then the probably is probably no longer a protection probability. maximum different issues that influence that easy are appropriate to emissions or gasoline economic device, no longer protection. despite if any automobile can capture on fire at any time, this automobile is not greater in all risk to attain this than different autos. To make a automobile explode, you ought to use a bomb or type rockets or something else that motives explosions. opposite to what you have got considered in video clips or television exhibits, autos do no longer explode on their very own, no longer even in injuries.

Cars exploding in like in the movies are IMPOSSIBLE (unless the car is carrying C4 as cargo). Explosion with gasoline or diesel needs both pressure and ignition source (like inside combustion chamber in a car engine)

The ignition source YES we can intentionally or unintentionally create at our gas tank. BUT there is no pressure in side our gas tank. so therefore explosion cannot be generated.

Movies SFX make it look like our car is a walking bomb. actually not. EVEN shooting the gas tank with a bullet it will NOT ignite the car to an explosion, it however will catch a big fire because of the fuel burning, but NOT explosion, as it does not have pressure.

What prevents cars from exploding when they catch fire like in the movies? The absence of stunt doubles?

some still do, but not as quick as in the movies. If is gets back to the fuel tank the vapors can cause it to explode. They explode so quick in the movies with some help from the pyrotech's on the movie set. A normal vehicle wont explode that quick without help but they still can eventually. In short nothing its not normal.

Usually, there is not enough gasoline to generate an explosion. This is due to the fact that gas is only meant to explode at high pressure (like in a cylinder), but in only burns in low pressures which exist at ground level.

Nothing, fire+gas=fire. You need gasoline to run a car, and unless a car is empty of gas it will explode, simple fact of life

Hollywood adds their $0.02 to it. Exploding car scenes would be 'cheesy' otherwise. Pyrotechs do a great job, wouldn't you agree?
