Well, it's bad for everyone :), but children have small stomachs that can easily be filled by the empty calories of soda. If they fill up on soda (or too much fruit juice, too), they have just consumed a high number of calories that have none of the vitamins, minerals or proteins that they need to grow and develop. I wouldn't say that you should never let a child have soda, but it should be an occasional treat and not an everyday beverage.

Well, ask yourself this, what's good about soda in the first place? Really, not much. I don't know the EXACT major bad things about it, but overall, they can't be good. Children are still growing, and should probably take in things to help that, not hurt it. I doubt a soda here and there would hurt, but everyday, well that would probably be too much.

On top of rotting teeth and messing up their kidneys, it will give them a crazy sugar high! Talk about bouncing off the walls!!!!! Don't give the kiddies soda. Heck, soda is not good for ADULTS either to be honest.

I'm pretty sure it's the caffiene part of it that's the really bad part. Just the soda could cause obesity though. Unhealthy eating habits developed in childhood lead to fatness.

"Caffeine is absorbed very quickly in the body and then passes into the central nervous system. Caffeine in low doses can affect the body, such as decreased appetite, increased urination, and insomnia (difficulty sleeping). Toxic effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, muscle twitching, and agitation can begin with consumption of as little as 4.5 mg of caffeine per pound of body weight (114 mg in a 25 lb. child). Severe caffeine toxicity can lead to seizures, an increased heart rate and an irregular heart beat. "Caffeine sensitivity" refers to the amount of caffeine that will produce negative side effects and this amount varies from person to person. Caffeine does not accumulate in the bloodstream and is excreted in the urine within hours of being consumed."

Soda is nothing but chemicals and carbonated water. The chemicals are shipped in a HAZARDOUS container truck to the factory. Enough said.

too much sugar, too much caffeine (if it's cola), carbonation is bad for the teeth as it weakens the enamel, no vitamins in soda so the children fill up on useless calories.

From my own experiences as a 4 year old who drank too many Dr. Peppers (I don't remember how many.) at her great-uncle's funeral, it will make you very sick, just like if you drank too many alcoholic drinks. I could not bear to touch another Dr. Pepper until I was around 12 or 13 years old.

I think his granddaughter was giving them to me. She was about 8.

Sugar rots their teeth and makes them hyperactive. Caffeine stunts their growth and makes them hyperactive. Carbonation upsets their stomachs, suppresses their appetites and gives them gas and makes them stinky creatures. Artificial colors and flavors aren't good for them and I don't know why. But I love soda!

It contains no nutrients and if they quench their thirst with soda, then they won't be thirsty to drink things that are actually good for them.

Uhm:

1) Caffine(hyper?)

2) Sugar(No, your kid doesn't have ADD-she's just HYPER from the sugar!)

3) No nutritional value(water's better)

Need I say more?
