The purpose of Prophets was to show an example to mankind.

They were also sent to preach the message of God unto mankind and teach the laws of God.

If Christians make these duties one for god or his son to do then where do the Prophets fit in ?

Have they ever considered that Jesus was a Great Israelite Prophet and others deified him after his departure.

He said He was the Son of God:

"If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? '
John 10:35-36

God his Father declared him to be the Son of God:
"After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" '
Matthew 17:1-5
His Apostles declared Him to be the Son of God:

"When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven."
Matthew 16:13-17

Don't you think it would be wise to agree with them?

Jesus was a Jew and a direct descendant of the prophet Abraham, founder of three religions. Abraham's religion was a good religion, simple, true and universal. People should remember that and get along.
