No degree, no commission, period. As far as Recon goes, good luck. Tell your recruiter you want to be an 03(infantry) and wait for a slot to open once you get to the fleet. Also, if you are deemed worthy, you could get pick for Silent Drill platoon duty. One of the most high profile, well know, and respected duty assignments in the Corps. But this also is VERY hard to get selected for. Be ready to not get either and spend your first enlistment as a grunt. And trust me, there is absolutely NO shame in being a groundpounder. Good luck bro.

I still don't understand why people want to start out in a leadership position without following first. I know what you're thinking....."Well, I'm different, I'm special, I'm a natural born leader." Well, pal almost all Marines are natural born leaders, and all good leaders should know how to follow. So, My suggestion is to start off as enlisted. If you want to go Recon, start off in infantry, so make sure that your recruiter contracts you as 0300. Do not go open contract, because you'll get screwed over and forced to sit in a boring office pushing paper. And do some time in basic infantry then see if Recon is for you. I spent 5 years in Marine Corps Infantry. I'm going to college right now so I can become an officer. But since I don't believe that I am special, I started off as enlisted. That's the way it should be. Start off at the bottom then work your way to the top because you want to make a difference and help out other junior Marines because you relate with them. Most Officers who are fresh out of college and were not prior enlisted are disliked by the enlisted men. Plus all of the camaraderie and brotherhood is in the enlisted ranks.

Mikey

A College degree is indeed necessary if you want to be commissioned as an officer. However, you can always look into the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps or the US Naval Academy (if you can get into either), which should give you a degree and a commission at the same time.

Recon is the kind of thing you need many months of experience to get into.

Ryan,
W/out college expericance it is impossible to become an officer in any branch of the military. If you enlist you can only go as high as E-5 or E-6 w/out attending school at some point. My father-in-law inlisted becuase he couldn't afford college then used his GI bill to pay for classes as he served. Once obtaining his BA or MA ( I don't remeber which)he enrolled in Officer Canidacy School or OCS and became an officer. NCO's require an AA and sometimes more.
I'd also recomend you look into other branches of service the Marine Corps dosn't advance rank as fast as other branches and it is also the hardest life style.

Hope it Helps.

as the previous poster said, if you dont have college, you cannot become an officer.. but in the usmc, you dont necessarily need to have a degree to be an officer... there are warrant officers.. an enlisted person only needs 3 years of college to request to be considered as a warrant officer.. BUT, warrant officer positions are much harder to get into then your standard officer training... because of the lack of positions available.
if you seriously want to become a warrant officer or officer after enlistment, you need to start making your impression of leadership skills early.
after the first week of introduction in basic, you will be going to your platoons. on the very first day, choose the rack (bed) thats going to be in the middle of the squad bay. this is the squad leaders rack. its going to require a huge commitment on your part.. you will lack sleep, you will be pushed the hardest.. if someone in your platoon ***** up, you can count on being 'it'd.. when you see a recruit being taken outside... you better be right behind that drill instructor.. but, this will start your profile.

No college, no shiny collars, if u want any chance at Ricky Recon then you will be best in the infantry, until a Recon slot presents its self..its not as simple as one thinks, and im no referring to the physical, im just referring to the opportunity to get a chance at Recon.....good luck and Semper Fi

A Commissioned Officer must have a degree (doesn't always have to correspond with your mos). You may want to look into becoming a Warrant Officer. It's tough to do, you have to be at least a Sgt or SSgt, but it's x amount more money.
Good luck.

There are training benfits.they have more desirable a great deal over this previous 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. whilst i replaced into in we've been given finished tutorial reward that lined classes, books, and a few residing costs. the advantages have been solid for 10 years after your discharge. At one factor you had to make a contribution for tutorial reward. i think of you're no longer from now on required to make a contribution. Ask a recruiter or look it up. There are different tutorial reward. you could attend night classes whilst interior the Marine Corps. you could take classes via mail or on the cyber web. each and every now and then the Marines will relieve you of greater desirable accountability whilst attending classes. In my case, they allowed us to take the SAT try on base and helped us observe. they decide so which you would be able to bypass to varsity and alter right into a greater useful marine. The Marine Corps will pay you adequate to get via. It should not be luxury yet you additionally could make it on your pay. some human beings do remorseful approximately their selection and take a examine out to get out. maximum of those are weeded out in recruit preparation. as quickly as you alter right into a marine you would be envisioned to behave maturely as a marine. Your pay would not matter on any try. All marines make the comparable pay finding on your rank and time interior the Corps. you could obtain greater desirable pay for wrestle, air team, residing off base and for nutrition in case you reside off base. you could basically stay off base as quickly as you attain a undeniable rank. For us, it replaced into Corporal in case you weren't married. You get thirty days bypass away a three hundred and sixty 5 days to do despite you opt for, alongside with traveling your loved ones. you will get holiday journeys so there will be some weekends the place you have got 4 days off. you opt for approval to bypass away the backside. you additionally can request prolonged weekends which we noted as seventy two and ninety six hour passes. those do no longer count extensive style agaist your bypass away. you could observe for them. you could spend years interior the Marine Corps without ever seeing damaging action. or you would be assigned the place the job is extremely risky. The activity of marines would properly be risky so do no longer bypass in questioning you're in basic terms going on a boyscout tenting holiday. you could have a dedication to alter right into a marine. and you'd be arranged for despite that dedication brings.

Have to have college, yea I know that sucks but that's the way it is. I say join the Army National Guard, go to college for four years while doing your monthly duty and then join the marines or whatever branch you are interested in. Good Luck.
