When would be the best time to by 5 airline tickets, one-way, roundtrip from Los Angeles, California (LAX) to Dallas, Texas (DFW) for December 22 to 29?
Is it best to buy now, a month before, or at another time?
Where do you recommend getting the tickets from?
And how much does such a ticket usually cost per person?

As far in advance as possible, especially since you're looking at traveling during the peak holiday season.
Check out all different websites before purchasing. Look into Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity as well as the carrier's sites. For your routing, check into American, United and Southwest. Maybe Frontier also, but I can't remember if they fly that route.
Don't take too long. Prices fluctuate daily, even hourly. You may see one price today and tomorrow it could be hundreds of dollars more.

If you are positively sure that's when you will be traveling you need to go ahead and get them now so you can get them at a lower price. But get them no later than a month before you go. You can make your reservation on-line through your airline's web-site. Or you can go through cheaptickets.com, hotwire.com, priceline.com, or yahootravel.
