The term Messiah is the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek term Christ. The word Messiah occurs very seldom (I think just twice in John's Gospel), but all the authors refer to Jesus as the Christ. In one of the passages in John (John 1:41), the term Christ and Messiah are explicitly declared to be the same thing.

jesus references the whole messiah thing when the pharisees are questioning him. it's vague and parable-ish, but it is mentioned in some of the gospels.
