I take the train from my precinct to my post every time I work a foot post.

yes it is normal and usual for a uniformed police officer to ride the subway. Its something that has been going on since 9/11.

it is something that has been going on for 100+ years. Police partol the subway just like they patrol the streets. Just since 9/11 people have been paying attention to them

the subway no longer has its own general security force (there are "MTA police" officers who perform certain special functions) so yeah, there are fortunately plenty of nypd officers in the train system.
