My mom has had several generations of a feral family living in her yard for a few years now.

If you start feeding them they won't leave, and they'll poo in your yard and garden (a garden is like a giant litter box to them). They probably won't beg much because they don't like people, but if you feed them often enough they won't be afraid to come up on your porch and they'll hang out there all the time.

Either way, DON'T feed them tuna - I've heard it can be bad for them if they've never had it before. Little bits of cheese, cooked meat or dry kitty food is better. I would say don't start feeding them unless you're prepared to do it all the time. Otherwise, leave them alone and they'll move on to a different yard after a while.

Good luck.

These are feral cats, probably, and socializing and adopting them usually isn't an option. They don't like to be touched. Feeding, on the other hand, is up to you. But I would think that if the cats weren't digging up your yard now, they're not going to later. Begging, now, that's another story. They will sit outside of your door, "Yow, yow, yow," etc. until you feed them. My inside cat certainly does.

If you feed them they will just want more. They can fend for themselves but it's just like someone bringing food to you, you like that more so you will start to depend on them. They will depend on you and will stick around your house all the time. More will probably end up coming. The tuna could make them sick too. Your mom told you not to, you don't want them to like you, so listen to her and don't feed them.

oh those poor things...feed them on the side even if you have to do it in the far corner of the house-sit near them when they eat, not too close but close enough that they eat near you-then once theyre tame advertise them for free on the internet...they deserve a loving home.
