They knew nothing about the rest of world then. Take for instance the US, they didn't know this land existed. To them, thier world was flooded. So hence the reason the bible was written to say the whole world was flooded. Is it right to question this? Has anyone ever really thought of it this way?

Yes, plenty of us have thought of this. Indeed, the New American Standard Bible (considered the most literal) uses the term "earth" rather than world, which could well mean "ground" rather than "planet". There *is* this verse (Gen 7:19)

And the water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered.

However, it cannot be said with certainty that this means *all* the mountains *in the world* were covered. One theory is that a geologic depression in the region caused it to be wholly flooded, and that this region has since risen. Note also that the Dead Sea region is the *lowest* elevation in the world already. It is certainly not impossible that this is the region where the flood occurred.

No one cannot say *with certainty* that the author meant *the entire planet* - despite the fact that several people *wish* to believe this.

You're right, back then the people thought that their world was flooded, so they made a story about it. And there is a "cultural memory" of when the Neolithic people settled near the Dead Sea, (before it was salty) the Mediterranean Sea broke through a land mass, filling the Dead Sea up to its current levels, and engulfing anyone within range..the survivors go around the world saying that the entire world was flooded (because that WAS their world) and that's how the Great Flood story spread throughout the world. Just a theory, but a good one if you ask me. But I doubt that Christians or anyone who believes the Great Flood could have happened like that...and the Noah part? Added by the people who traveled down to the Middle East...to add a moral into the story, or something.

Heres my take on that one. In luke 2:1 it says that the Romans were going to tax the whole world. We konw that the Bible can't lie and we also know that the American Indain did not get taxed or the Aboriganies in Austraia (I can't spell worth a damn) So the term "whole world" in my way of thinking ment whole KNOWN world. so the entire known world got flooded.

Because God said it did. He has a great view from heaven!

Gen 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that [were] under the whole heaven, were covered.
