I am getting my license soon, but my dad says I should wait until September to buy a car...is that practical to do? I mean there are cars right now that are okay to buy, I am afraid that if I wait until then htese cars might be sold. But then again, there may be more better deals then....what do u think?

New cars...A month or so after the new model year comes out. Usually September/October but that depends on the actual model (some come out early) No dealer wants 07's sitting next to 08's....and they will practically give away an new 06 now.

Used Cars... about 90 days after they hit the lot. They become "old age" and are put on a "hit list". Salesmen get a resonable mininum commssion ($300-500)regardless of gross, so they won't be picky. Sales Manager would need to approve a lose...but I've seen it happen

Is your Dad paying for it? If so wait. I don't know why September would be better but maybe with the expenses of going back to school and other bills he's just trying not to say money is tight. Don't worry there will be a car when you are ready. In the meantime, save for gasoline, oil, repairs and depending on your family rules maybe insurance. Be a safe driver. Prices? Better incentives will show, dealers are not selling that many or within expectancies. The newer the car the higher the price, by the way, no matter what the offer, it has been calculated on price. Is like going fishing, pole hook and BAIT.

I don't think that it matters what month you buy in, but it definitely matters what time of the month you buy. I always buy at the very end of the month. Car dealers have a goal or a target number to sell. If they have not made their target, they will cut the price, or meet you demands. They won't do this at the beginning or the middle of the month because they think they have plenty of time to sell. WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH!!!!!

Most people buy cars during the summer. If you wait until the winter you have more leverage. Also, if you buy at the end of the month the salesman will be more eager to meet his quota.

There will always be more cars. Wait until you need one then get one. Sept thru Dec are good times to buy last years models. Just tell the dealer what you want, and they will find it and get it delivered to you. No worries, mate.

I'd buy whick one I want, get it towed back to my home, then when that time comes, I'll already have a car to register!
