Ok...so I only have 1 more issue with the LDS church before I can agree that is the true church. I hear many people claiming Mormons become Gods after they die....

Can you give me scriptures from the BoM that support that? Or D&C for that fact.

Thanks I searched and I found D&C 132 19-21

" 19 And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, ...Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; ...and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, ...and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.

20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.

21 Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory."

Ironically, I think you will find this doctrine in the Bible.

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

D&C 132 does talk about the potential to be gods with a little 'g'. It also says why that term applies: we will have no end and we will have power over angels. That is still pretty far from being God with a big 'G'.

20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.

This isn't a subject we concentrate on very much, basically because there isn't a lot of doctrine on it, other than what we already have in the scriptures...
In my own opinion, not all Mormons are going to become gods. We do have the potential but that doesn't mean it's going to be like "ok, you are a mormon, you are now a god"
I think it will be quite a process and take lots and lots of time. We cannot grasp the vastness of eternity nor the possibility of having the same power as God... so I don't even try to. God has all knowledge, all power, all in perfectness...we do not, therefore we cannot fully understand some of the things He reveals to us. It is there in our minds, that is the important part I think.
I don't worry about it too much...if I become a goddess with my husband, so be it. If I don't, at least I will (hopefully!) be with my family for all eternity.

This principle is based on Joseph Smith failure to deal with death of his brother's death, so he created Babtism for the dead and evolving into a God or Goddess, to deal with this issue, besides the bible that has been around long then the BofM says that..thou shalt have no other Gods before me...
20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.
Sounds like idolitry to me.

The closest I can get is in:

Doctrine and Covenants 132:20

Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them.

I just wonder how they can get to that conclusion??? Where in our God given Scripture is the text that can be tweaked to give this impression?

Sola Scriptura

Many people have a problem with this aspect of the gospel and I had a seminary teacher that explained it very well to my class. Think of your own father, doesn't he love you and wish for you to have all he has and more? Doesn't he want you to succeed in life? Why is this so different with our Heavenly Father? He has unconditional love for each and everyone of us. Doesn't it only make sense that He wants us to attain His same glory and power? I would have given a scripture but you have already found some. :)

Only one more issue? That means you can accept the existance of the gold plates, and the literal translation of those plates by magic divination, but you're still only stuck on the man-to-be-god connection?

I do not understand why on this formum mormons tend to backtrack on this whole issue, when it is clearly taught that man can become gods. Not 'like' him meaning 'with similar attributes', but "Just like" meaning EXACTLY.

It's funny how once the public starts eyeing the saints, they scramble to make mormonism more 'acceptable' when for over 170 years they didn't give a damn.

It's called lying. It makes that organization look like a cheap ad for chinese fuel economy gadgets.

No, I can't... because it's not a fact. They believe that at the highest level of heaven, you will be WITH God... just like the Bible says. No one ever says they will BECOME Gods themselves.

Good luck on your conversion!
