I've seen/sensed them. They are very real messengers from God. I believe God sends them to protect us, to carry our prayers and praise to heaven, to show us where we need to go, (once I think they even hid my keys for a few minutes to make me a few minutes later so I avoided being in an accident.(I know the keys were one place and they showed up across the room where I hadn't even been until I looked there)), to provide insight when we need a "word". Whatever God requires of them.

When my sis was little, she was out in the street after a big snowstorm. A car came swerving down the street due to slick roads and there was nowhere to go to get out of the way. She claimed an angel picked her up above the car careening past! Well, I was always inquisitive, so when I heard of this when I was probably 11 or 12, I went and asked the neighbors who were around at that time. This little German woman, in broken English, told me, indeed she saw an angelic form with wings pick up my sister and then gently put her down. Cool, huh? That's when I started believing. Hubby waiting for me to finish, but Amazon.com has a great selection of books on Angels as does Crossings.com. Gary Bussey was on tv about a month ago telling how he truly believes angels are here on earth to cater to us. I call on mine daily for help. Frank Paretti's books "This Present Darkness", and "Piercing the Darkness" are works of fiction but a good portrayal of what I believe angels are capable of. Enjoy investigating!

The word “angel” actually comes from the Greek word aggelos, which means “messenger.” The matching Hebrew word mal'ak has the same meaning.

Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament (Chafer, Systematic Theology, II, 3). Hence, there is ample information available in Scripture to allow us to build a foundation for our knowledge of angelic beings.

the idea of angels became part of Judaic tradition after the ancient Jews were exiled to Babylon. That is, angel lore began with the ancient Babylonians and Chaldeans. It worked its way into Judaism and then Christianity and also Gnosticism, and Ceremonial Magical cults. Although some scholars believe that belief in angels was an important part of early Judeo-Christian religion, angels are not often mentioned in the standard Bible--particularly not in the New Testament. Michael is mentioned in Revelations in a story about the war in heaven and Gabriel is mentioned in the story of the Visitation of the Virgin in the Gospels of Mathew and Luke. A book called Enoch, which was not chosen to be part of the regular Christian Bible way back when a bunch of bishops in 300 AD were deciding which books got to be the Bible and which books got trashed, gets very elaborate about angel lore and names hundreds of angels and fallen angels (I think the Book of Enoch might still be a part of Jewish scriptures though). Certain theologians and magicians during the Middle Ages also wrote documents about angels.

The "orders of angels" are:

Dominions--involved in world order
Angels--involved in the care and proper working of things
Authorities (or Virtues) --involved in striving toward the good and heroic
Powers--involved in justice
Principalities--involved in lordship and the rulership of nations
Thrones (or Wheels or Oraphim) involved in time and space
Cherabim--involved in perception and wisdom
Seraphim--involved in the knowledge and bliss of the divine presence.

They are messengers. We shouldn't pray to them, although they bring the answer to prayers sometimes. See Luke 1. They sometimes appear and talk, do miracles, fight battles, minister to saints, test us (entertained angels unaware), minister to God, fly around His throne and worship Him 24/7.

Angels are everywhere.

We have the authority to put thousands to flight.

Angels are ministering spirits, sent to help us.

They battle demons in the spiritual realm. ( The invisible realm most humans don't see)
