you only been dating for 4 months and he's leaving for 3 yrs?...start seeing other people, by the time he comes back or if he does, you two would have changed so much

There is nothing you can do about the situation. So it is best to get on with your life as if he does not exist. You need to do things for yourself that will make you feel happy. MAKE yourself get interested in an activity. Go to a gym and start working out, or workout at home with a dance DVD.

Play the field, there is nothing you can do, you're young, enjoy life. meet new people. From experience, there will be another you can care about. If he returns and you're still single, get together then.
