Personally, I don't believe in the concept of "evil". There is a ultimately a scientific explanation for everything, and that kind of outdated mystical mumbo-jumbo just muddles any kind of legal, social, or psychological study. Mental illness and biological brain defects don't explain it either. Being depressed, paranoid, delusional, or hearing voices doesn't usually make a person violent and certainly cannot explain the carefully planned nature of mass murders. Bullying during childhood might be one contributing factor. I think what it comes down to is that those kinds of murderers all have some big grudge against the world, have nothing left to lose in life, feel disconnected from society, and have easy access to powerful weapons. That's all it takes.

Actually they could be all three things you listed. Its all in the psyche of the person thats going to commit the crime. Some were bullied (as in the case of Columbine) some were evil (Tacoma Mall shooting) and others were just mentally ill (too many to list). As far as what I think about the people, I think they resort to a lesser means of dealing with their problems rather than seeking help, they seek the way out they feel comfortable with.

Most Killers (Not ALL) Have a Defect within their brains, which combined with Child abuse (of any kind), can cause a person to be violent. Most are not “evil” In that sense. They do not have the ability to think like someone whose brain has fully developed.

Personally I feel they have a death wish. Their random shootings are premeditated, so they can't be mentally ill if they know what they're doing. They also know know that eventually they will be caught.

It could be any of those.
Some are psychotic. Some are evil. Some are just emotionally broken. There is no one single answer for every case.
