she doesnt like the adult food as much so my mom tried to give her a bag of puppy food and it was like she thought it was god in the form of food. she ate the whole bag. is there any reason we shouldnt feed her science diet puppy food as an adult? why? she is a bichon/poodle if that makes any difference.

All food changes in a dogs' diet must be made gradually. We advise 10% increases of the new food every 3 days provided there is no change in her consumption or stool output. When you add 10% adult food, decrease the puppy food by 10% so she still consumes the same amount of food.
Leaving her on puppy food can lead to obesity and kidney/liver/heart problems in her senior years.
FYI - Science Diet is NOT a premium quality food but it does have a big premium pricetag. Plus, it contains BHA/BHT and/or ethoxyquin which are chemical preservatives known and tested to cause cancers and digestive problems. Consider a food similar to Wellness, Natural Balance, Nutro Ultra or Innova.

You have to switch the food gradually, do 1/4 adult with 3/4 puppy and increase it every 2 days or so. Puppy food is high in calories so your dog might start getting a little over weight if you don't switch. Puppies need the higher calories because they are growing while adults don't need it.

We have a one year old lab mix and a six year old lab mix, along with an eleven year old golden. The one year old was from the pound so we started him off adult right away, he was a little under a year at the time. We recently had switch their adult food and they like Beneful more and it is cheaper. Products like Purina are made of corn and the price is rising due to fuel costs rising.
Try mixing it until she gets used to her new food or try a different food. Mixing it start with a little adult but decrease the puppy and add more adult as you go along. That might help.

If she is not eating the adult food than keep her on the puppy food. Puppy food is higher in calories so you will have to watch her weight so she doesn't get fat.

Mine like the puppy food better as well try 50% puppy 50% adult.

No,it won't hurt her.Small breeds need more concentrated nutrition,anyway,because they eat less.Just watch that she doesn't get too fat on it!
