NO!! I painted my husband's office red - the colour is from Benjamin Moore and is called Louisiana Hot Sauce. I painted the doors and trim Benjamin Moore's colour Flurry and the furnishings are dark mahogany - it looks amazing!! We get compliments all the time and my husband loves it!!

I don't think it will look disgusting and dark and dull. How could red walls look dull? Not sure how relaxing that would be for a bedroom, but if you like a little zing in your life, this would definitely do it. Stay away from the lipstick reds, though. They might tend to make your room look neon. And I don't think that's what you want. I would also say, use only neutrals as a compliment. The white and gold would be fine. Just as long as you don't have gold going on all over the place. Even your artwork should be neutral, or your bedroom will look like a three-ring circus. Perhaps black and white prints would be best. I would also make sure to stream-line things. Too much clutter will make the room look too busy with such strong walls. Personally, I painted my guest room Benjamin Moore's 'taste of berry.' Much more of a deep pink than a red. But very strong for me, none the less. I did as you are doing...I have an antique white metal bed in there with antique white bedding. The dresser is an old mahogany piece. And I put a small antique gold chandelier overhead, and an ornate antique gold mirror on the wall. It get's loads of compliments and I do love lounging around in there.
Good luck! Hope this helps.

Although red is a color that invigorates and sometimes causes aggression, I think it is a bold move that should be applauded. Maybe you should try a deeper red, with cooler undertones (more like a wine color) rather than a brighter red (like blood red) so that you create a more soothing environment. I'm staring at my bright red wall now in my office, and it is a gutsy thing to do in a bedroom. Bright red is better for dining spaces or offices. Pair the deep red with an antique gold color, not yellow gold. It will seem more sophisticated with the white accents.
Good Luck!

hey abay have you considered maybe using 2 different reds, possibly 3? the good news in doing decor projects is there are ssooo many types of red which makes choosing fun. it's a good idea to invest in large paint chips (18"x18") .....they are about 4 dollars each but they give you a good sense of color on a larger expanse. (if you dont want to spend on chips use a solid towel or solid tablecloth or solid showercurtain or solid fabric or even a Tshirt because color truly needs to be seen on an expanse.) ... feel free to use those little free chips but be aware those little chips can fool the eye and at worse be costly and aggravating in time and money spent... remember nowadays stores like Lowe's and even some good hardware stores offer color matching with a scanner gun and a paint "computer". all you need to do is bring in your SOLID sample (no pattern!) for the clerk to scan, the larger the better. you can also invest in white boards and those little "sample jars" but i think that method's more expensive than the large chips method. happy painting and best wishes for a great look. ps you can also look at pages out of wallpaper books NOT to buy wallpaper *but because a page is large enough to "act" like large chip* if the page is not too patterned.

Sounds gorgeous to me. If you aren't sure, try painting an "accent" wall first. Make the wall behind your bed red and see how you like that first. It may be enough. If not, do the rest. Be sure to buy a small sample of the paint first and look at it for several days in different lights to make sure it's the right red for you.

I think red and white make a great contrast, but I'm not sure how soothing the combination would be. I don't know how easy it would be for me to fall asleep in a red bedroom. I don't think red is a bad color, but it's not my favorite choice for a bedroom, and no, it won't be dark and dull. I would choose a color that is less harsh if I were you. Goodluck

It won't look bad if you add other elements to your walls, like shelves, posters, etc.
However, you will need to use a (red) tinted primer before you apply your red paint top coat. This will help your red paint to cover better and be more brilliant in shade. Have the home center tint your primer for you when you have them mix your paint so it's a good match.
Have fun.

I would say paint three walls red and paint the largest wall white. Then the room won't look as enclosed and you'll still be using your favourite colours. In our room we have one dark purple wall (Aubergine I think) and three lilac walls, it looks really nice.

A light color with less contrast would be more relaxing. Light green is very soothing, like nature.
