here is your answer I live on the islands and I would say Oahu would be first beause it has all of the shopping malls their like alamoana, aloha towers, hotels well most of all of them are good because they are all near the beach it just depends what beach u want to go to.for adventure diamond head hike, and polinitian cultural center. Also this is a must you have to go visit the war memorials and the wamea falls. Also if u are up to it try scuba diving or just snorkling. On friday night every week they have a firework show by the sheraton ( sorry no time) From Oahu it's either Maui or Kauai.

With what you described, Oahu is where you will want to spend most of your time. But don't limit yourself to just one island. There are tour packages that will take you to all four of those islands. I can't speak about the Big Island or Maui, because I haven't been there. But I bet they have some world class hotels and shopping there too.
Kauai is much more laid back and less populated. But it has some great hotels too. Look up the store called Two Frogs Hugging while there. It is amazing.
Good luck, have a blast, and Aloha!

I traveled to Honolulu in May 2006, I had never been to Hawaii before. I stayed at the Outrigger. It was great! Just a tip anywhere you stay in Honolulu is going to pretty good because the whole island is surrounded by ocean. Also Honolulu was only a couple of blocks from the front of my hotel. Get on one of the travel programs and read the comments about each hotel. That is how I found the one I stayed at. Also you might want to scout around a bit before renting a car because the transporation there is great and it costs about 18-20 dollars a day to park at hotels. But if you do decide you would need a car no matter what then rent it as part of your package to go because the rental once you get there is outrageous.

They all offer 5 star hotels, shopping, adventure, a little of everything. No matter which island you choose you are going to want to visit another island. You can fly to the big island in 30 min from Oahu... so I would plan to see at least two of the islands.

Most airlines fly into either Kailua Kona or Hilo. As for where to stay, it really depends on what you want to do during your stay. Most of the nicer swimmable beaches, snorkeling and big resorts are on the western, Kona side of the island. Kona is also home to the world-famous Kona coffee so if you're a java junkie, it's worth a trip to check out how they grow and process coffee. There are hiking trails throughout the island. Volcanoes National Park is on the East side about 30 minutes' drive from Hilo (the major East-side town) and Mauna Kea is around 30-45 minutes' drive from Hilo and is most definitely worth a visit if you want to see some of the clearest star-gazing on the planet. It's about 2.5 to 3 hours to drive from Volcanoes to Kailua Kona so it's totally doable to drive around the entire island in a day - something I'd also recommend since our island is so diverse (it has 12 of the 14 climate zones found on earth). You don't say whether you're visiting any of the other islands at all. If you are and are limited on time, I would recommend staying in Hilo so you have easy access to Volcanoes Park and the lava viewing at night (which is outside of the park) since none of the other islands have an active lava flow. Good luck planning your trip! Aloha!

February is peak season, airfares & hotels are the most expensive. The outer islands have much less people. I prefer Maui 1/10th the population of Oahu.

Why choose one island when you can have two. Do your shopping and nightlife in Waikiki for a couple of days then catch an Aloha Airlines flight for $39 ( see their website) to Kauai for the best sightseeing you will ever have while staying in some of the best hotels. I stayed at the Sheraton Kauai beach which was fantastic but next time it will be the Hyatt.............Aloha!!!!!!!!!

Oahu has everything you are looking for! For shopping check out the Ala Moana Center - it's the largest open-air mall in the world! For 5 star accommodations I suggest the Royal Ihilani Resort and Spa.

They are all great places to go, and all of them have 5 star hotels. You might also think about renting a vacation house for the weekend. Sometimes it can even be cheaper then the hotels and some come with housekeeping, and other services. Plus you have all the comforts of home. :)

If you want a little bit of everything then you should definitely stay in Waikiki first. Shopping, the beach, night clubs, and other activities are readily available. If you want a nice 5 star class hotel in the middle of Waikiki then I would recommend the Halekulani. Have fun.
Aloha!
