There are several, nTune is good if you have an nVidia based motherboard, but really the best and most reliable way is going into the BIOS and doing it yourself. The program you use has to access the BIOS anyway, so why not cut out the middle man and do it yourself. If you need help on where to go, send me an IM and I can help you out.

As for what Dan said, uninformed answer is all I can say. Low end Core 2 Duos can be quite easily overclocked 30-50%, which most definately yields a performance gain. Even high end ones can be overclocked somewhat. His answer was spot on when the Pentium 4s were running in the 3.0Ghz+ range, becaue you couldn't go much higher due to heat limits. But the Core 2s have changed that, they are great overclockers. And as for the speed of the RAM, most of the time it is the FSB that is the bottleneck, not the RAM, and overclocking the CPU means overclocking the FSB as well.

Why would you?

In the old days, when you had a 100MHz Pentium, it was fun to get almost 200MHz out of it. That was almost double.

But with the fast chips today, when you take a 3GHz cpu and overclock it by 40Mhz, that is barely 5 percent. Since the RAM is stuck at a slower speed, you can barely tell the difference... But the HEAT is ON.

The old Pentiums could be overclocked, and still last 7 to 10 years. But the new Core 2 Duo barely will last 5 years now; and if you overclock, it just might last 2 years.

Overclock is just a sales BUZZ word today, and does not mean PERFORMANCE like it used to.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I overclock my very modest e6300 by about 33% without problem.
I havent used programmes to overclock, I do it in the Bios.

Hope this helps
