Your dog will need to earn its Canine Good Citizen certification as well as be evaluated. Start with formal obedience training for the CGC and contact Therapy Dogs International (TDI) to register and to find out more about training your dog for therapy work.

There is a formal process for dogs in hospitals and I don't think they are going to allow puppies as the adult dogs they test are examined for obedience and calmness. Contact a local hospital and ask who runs the program in your area.

Puppies are too restless, and can cause commotion in a hospital environment. adult dogs, well trained are a more acceptable form of therapy for kids. Although puppies are cuter.

Many hospitals do not allow this process, when a friend of mine was going through chemo we called and we werent even allowed to bring her a goldfish.
