I recommend feeding him about 5 pieces of bread (small pieces at a time). He should be fine... no need to take him to the vet. If he starts vomiting or acts lethargic then it is time to take him to the vet (they will do x-rays to determine if there is a blockage or obstruction to the gut). Keep a close eye on him for the next 48 hours.
Let me know how he does!! Those labs!!! They will eat anything! We had one come in last week that ate a lightbulb... poor guy! :)

I would just watch him. If he shows no signs of distress in the next couple of days don't worry about, he passed it. My dogs have gone through Popsicle sticks, tooth picks, TV remotes, Q-Tips, pencils, cell phones, Tupper Ware, chicken bones, Play Station controllers and almost anything you can think of. Thank god they are not puppies anymore and don't do it anymore. There has never been a problem. Dogs are amazing animals.

It has the potential to puncture his stomach or intestines. It really depends on if he swallowed it whole or chewed it up. If he chewed it up most likely it will pass, but if you have any doubts have him checked out. You will be needing X-Rays and possibly surgery if its whole. I would still recommend, even if it was chewed up, to take him to the vet and they can give you a high fiber diet for him to help him pass it easier. If you decide not to take him to the vet and he starts vomiting and/or having loose or bloody stool you need to take him in immediatly!!!!!

I'd watch him and if he starts acting weird at all or having any symptoms, take him to the vet. If you want to be on the safe side, take him there now. A toothpick is really sharp and I'd worry it would puncture his stomach.

a toothpick was the cause of great distress to a patient on House last week. A weekly TV show, the toothpick went from his lungs to his stomach to his liver to his intestines. See a VET

I'd give your vet a call and ask them. Not the best risk to ask users of the service, no offense to anyone, I'm not even going to answer this. It won't cost you and it will take but a minute.

If he chewed it into pieces, then it could pass, but if he didn't then it probably might not. Since it's a bigger dog, he could probably pass it through because toothpicks are small.

a toothpick can very easily become lodged in his intestines. Get him to the vet immediately...it could kill him
