I Think MY Neighbors are making fun of my religion?

I was praying in the van because in my family we have a tradition like: Every time we leave the house we have to pray and we've been doing this for many generations and both the neighbor's son and his goth girlfriend were looking at me weirdly and started gossiping. What should I do? I think there making fun of my religion and traditions...........

If you are comfortable praying like that, you shouldn't let anyone's ridicule stop you.

You have the right to pray, they have the right to find it funny. That's how the world works.

People who feel good about themselves don't have the desire to make fun of others. I would just ignore them. They sound like inconsiderate idiots to me.

By the way, I think your tradition is sweet. Studies show that we are most likely to get into a major traffic accident within 25 miles of home. Especially with the way people drive these days (and that reminds me - People! Take your friggin CELL PHONES from your ears and DRIVE!!!), there's nothing wrong with asking for a little heavenly protection. I've noticed that people who talk on (hand held) cell phones either drive way too fast or way too slow.

Just ignore your neighbors. Pretty soon, like pests usually do, they'll go away.

Did they say anything to you? Did they come up and ask snide questions about what you were doing and why?

If not, then what difference does it make, really? You can't control what they do or say in private--just like they can't control how and when you pray. It may not be right--being pagan, I've put up with plenty of gossip from the neighbors--but until and unless they bring it to you, there's really nothing to be done about it.

You have the right to pray in your van, but if people see you and think that is strange that is their opinion. There's nothing you can do about it accept pray in your home before getting in the van. Christians think it's okay to voice their opinions about homosexuals. Now you know what that's like.

It doesn't matter what somebody else think about your beliefs. If you truly believe in whatever it is you believe in, then just go ahead and keep praying and upholding your traditions. If your neighbours are too immature to respect your differences than that's just their problem.

I've heard of that tradition, except it's for trips. You sit down and pray and hope for a safe trip. I think it's a Russian thing.

Sounds like this is your first experience with religious prejudice... Join the club. As a pagan, I've dealt with this sort of thing for most of my life. In fact, in high school, I had a teacher that accused me of killing cats and digging up bodies at midnight. The best way to deal with idiots like that? Shake it off, and say another prayer.
