When clipping my Yorkies nails how do I know how far to go?

I am afraid if I cut too far I will hurt her.

the safest way is to clip often and very small ammounts 1 or 2 millimeters, if they are overgrown and you are nervous and not sure how much to clip get it done profesionally, either your vet or grooming parlour and then just keep on top of it by weekly tipping of the claws, try to walk the dog more on the pavement as this will help, but light dogs like yorkies often dont have enough weight to wear the claw naturally.

You can see the blood line if they are white. If they are black, clip the nail and then look at the end of the nail and clip it until you can see what looks like a black spot. This is where you will need to stop. I am a groomer and clip nails everyday. Get a bottle of styptic powder to keep near by in case you accidently make one bleed. If it bleeds put some of this on the end of the nail and the bleeding will stop. Poeple dont realize dogs can bleed to death this way. Hope this helps.

the nail has 2 colours pink and white a bit like humans. You can cut the white nail but be careful that you don't go to near the pink bit . There are also clippers with guards on them that you can purchase from any pet shop which will stopm you taking off to much. If the nails are black I would recommend taking to a groomer. well if your dog has white nails you can see how far to go as the rest of the nail will be red so you have to make sure you only chop the white bit and dont go too close to the red. but if they are black its harder so each time only take a little bit of the end or get someone to do it that has more experience

if the nails are white then only cut to just before the vein you can see through the nail. If nails are black then get professional to cut nails.

Dont cut past the "quick" which is the black line that you can see one the bottom of the dogs nails.

you only need to cut a small amount off of the tip for it to be effective, although you may be able to see near the bottom of the claw near the fur that there is a vein. the other option is to ask your vet surgery to do it as usually the nurses there are happy to do so

you can just cut to the quick but for me I take my yorkie to the groomers I am to afraid I wil hurt her,but find out what the quick is and you will know exactlly cause I do not know how I can explain it

not really any idea we cant get anywhere near our dogs nails without her panicking and wimpering like a baby (thats before we have touched her nails lol) easiest option is a pro or vet both do it very well although i aint sure on price my aunt is a vet so we get ours done free

YOU LOOK FOR THE VEIN IN THE NAILS AND DON'T CUT PAST THE "TIP" OF IT. IF YOU DO GET A VEIN BY ACCIDENT, THEY HAVE STIPTIK (SPELLING?) POWDER THAT YOU CAN PUT ON THE NAIL TO STOP THE BLEEDING. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THAT POWDER, FLOUR (BAKING) WORKS GOOD TOO. HOPE THAT HELPS.
