All tattoos have an element of pain.
I think the placement you have chosen
is probably the best place and least pain.
Most people say the shoulder, or shoulder
blade is least painful. It was for me. The
back and the ribs are much more painful.

Out of all of my tattoos, the ones that hurt the most were areas with bone directly underneath (shoulders, leg band-on the bone part) and the arm band when it went under the arm (my lymph nodes gave me very strong messages never to mess with them again!) The ones that hurt the least were the most fleshy areas (tops of my breasts). However, it really hurt like hell every single time, so be prepared!

I have five, the front of my hips and back of my hips and breast. The back of the hips wasn't bad. The breast was bad, and from friends I have heard the inside of the upper arm is super painful. As far as the spots that I have got it done, it only hurts while they do it, after that, the worst thing you have to do deal with is the itching when it heals. Good Luck!

The closer to the bone the more the pain, so any place with a lot of muscle or fat would not hurt as much as a place that has none.

dude, the pain is all part of the process. but if you really want to avoid pain, anywhere on your back is going to hurt. arms, thighs, anywhere you have a good amount of muscle and fat will be best.

It's going to hurt where ever you get it. Avoid bony areas - look for places where you have more "padding" (fat)
