How good? Very good. He had skills and toughness. He wasn't super big, super fast, or a one punch knockout artist. Against Ali, he was too slow. Frazier hit him like Thor's hammer. He would've done very well against Bowe and Lewis. Tyson would've beat him early in Iron Mike's career. He'd win after Mike began fading shortly after Spinks. His early death was quite tragic.

He fought and lost to Frazier and Ali twice. But he beat Floyd Patterson and knocked out Earnie Shavers in the first round. Earnie Shavers was 44(43kos)-2-0 at the time. However, I don't think he'll win Bowe, Lewis, or Tyson.

I remember watching one of his fights against (I think)Ernie Shavers, who was a VERY tough heavy weight, and he went all 15 rounds. Actually, he went the distance with almost everyone he fought, (although I believe Foreman knocked him out early in his fight) and when he fought both Frazier and Ali they were at or near the top of their game. He took a lot of punishment, and died of well, for lack of a better reason, cumulative brain damage caused from years of getting hit in the face/head. I do believe he also was, at one time the number one CONTENDER for the heavyweight crown, but never won it. As to his cuts, yep he had white mans disease, slow and bleeds all over the place. Against Lewis, no contest, Lewis to big, reach etc. Bowe, again, to big, Tyson wins on either cuts or ref stops fight. Holyfield, again cuts, etc. Another point, He fought when title fights were 15 rounds, not 12, those extra 3 rounds with the amount of punishment he took, probably did him in. The last years of his life were very sad. A good fighter, who I felt had more heart/guts than talent

He was pretty good. Could take a punch and give one too. He wasn't as good as Frazier or Ali, but not many are or were. Quarry might have a shot at today's lesser champions, but not Klitschko.

Good enough to give Frazier and Ali good fights, and beat up and coming heavys Mac Foster and Ron Lyle. Also, probably good enough to be champ in the next decade.

a darn good fighter, he won the golden gloves championship when he was young. and also won his first 20 pro fights. he was ''Irish" and drank alot !! most of his fights were stoped on cuts. his first big win was against Floyd Patterson. he also beat buster mathis, ron lyle, ernie shavers & billy daniels. his only problem was he was in the eara of ali, frazier, norton and jimmy ellis. o-yes he was trained by his father john or jack quarry. he had two brothers who were fighters bob and mike quarry. jerry always fought his heart out. r.i.p jerry quarry

He could do well again any slugger because he had good chin and he can punch. A good boxer can beat him because he was slow. He remind me of Randall Texx Cobb plus punching power.
