don't you think it's sort of irresponsible to give people an idea of forgiveness in the sense of being a born again christian? often this sense of forgiveness is equated with being cured of ones obsessions. based on my personal experience, the majority of people who call themselves "born again" usually refer to themselves as that because of a past they feel they need to escape, usually because of guilt. these problems are usually deep-rooted, and more often than not require a good amount rehab that - sorry to say - the church just cannot give. sadly the majority of people who become born again christians often go back to their old ways because the church could not help them with their problems.

God's forgiveness is INSTANT, as soon as a person commits his/her life to Him. But God's healing is not microwave healing. That one is a day-by-day process.
It is a lie when some preachers say, "Come to Jesus and all your problems will be solved instantly"

It's each individual's personal responsibility how he continues his walk with God after he is born again, depending how faithful he is in deepening the relationship with God through Bible reading and prayer.
There is a good, catchy saying for followers of Jesus, " God's Word will keep you from sin, BUT sin will keep you from God's Word."

If someone is told they are going to be instantly cured of their compulsion, that is irresponsible. But many churches also sponsor 12-step programs, and use the basic structure of "one day at a time." That's really the only way to conquer a compulsion.

When my old life ended I wasn't in a guilt crisis.
I was over weight, smoked, and hated plenty of people.
I came to Christ for love, I didn't really care about changing anything about myself.
I lost the desire to smoke and lost a fifth of my body weight.
Now I'm far more tolerant than I was.
Not that any of these changes were necessary for my salvation. These changes were necessary for my testimony.
Not all people who claim to be Children of God are crazy.
A few of us have a really big Dad watching out for us.

Hello just curious.. :)

I was "set free overnight" from drugs, alcohol, hate, anger, greed, racism, to name just a few..

When we stay faithful to God and His Holy Word, we will not fall away...if we stop praying and reading the Word of God, then yes, we will go astray..

But it is not the churchs fault, it is ours, because the cares of this world, mean more, then Loving our Lord.. :(

I asked Jesus into my heart on August 28, 1978..so I have been set free from sin, for almost 29 years.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)
