It's rightfully a classic. I'd suggest also picking up Jennifer Hunter's "21st Century Wicca" and Nicholas Graham's "The Four Powers: Magical Practice for Beginners of All Ages" to go with it. And if you really want to know what I think about other books, my book review blog can be found at http://lupabitch.wordpress.com (the left sidebar has links to other reviewers, too)
Don't stop with books, though. Talk to other people. http://www.witchvox.com has a great Witches of the World section where you can find local pagans. Also check out http://groups.yahoo.com , http://www.meetup.com and http://www.livejournal.com as a way of finding folks in your area. You don't necessarily have to join a coven or other group, but it's a good idea to have people to trade ideas with.

this is one review I found on it ... as I havent read it myself
By Richard Ballard
Mr. Cunningham has written a book for the Wiccan who is solitary either because s/he knows no existing local compatible covens, or because s/he has no compatible person with whom to practice Wicca. The book is very well-written. It is suitable for true beginners, but contains extensive detail making it valuable for the more advanced Wiccan.

I'm not a Wiccan, but yes, I've read this book. It was given to me by a friend. I've heard it cited many times as a good introductory text for beginning Wiccans. It's been a long time since I've read it, but I do remember it being fairly straightforward and easy to understand. This book, in addition to several other texts (and several other friends), helped me gain a better overall understanding of Wicca.

ti is regardes as one of the best books on beginner Wicca.
cunningham is well respected thought most Wiccan communities.
it is on my reading list, but it is a ways down the line right now. i am currently devoting most of my time to the historical evidence of beliefs left by the Celtic People.

Yes, I have read it. It is the book that EVERYONE suggest reading to know the basics of solitary Wicca. It is basic, simple, and easy to read.

It is an excellent book, and the first book I recommend that newcomers to the faith pick up -- it contains everything one needs to get started in terms of living the religion on a daily basis.

Being into Wicca means you celebrate the Earth, which is also a part of God in my opinion. We as humans have the stuff stars are made of in our bodies and that Includes the Earth so I feel it is a celebration of life, hence Godliness.

I haven't read it yet, but I'm planning on it. I've heard it was really good. Any Wiccan book by Scott Cunningham is good.

GREAT book. I dig just about everything by Cunningham, his books are intellectual, thorough and easy to understand without treating the reader like they're an idiot.

It's not a bad book, it's just very bottom-line and beginner level. It's a good FIRST book to read, but don't make it your ONLY book.
