I have a CD-ROM that says it works with Windows XP and below. The problem is I have Windows Vista, so it won't work. Is this a common problem? Are there any solutions online that I can use to make the CD-ROM work on Vista? Please and thank you.

Your CD-ROM drive was no detected, usually Windows vista detect most of Hardware drives, and if does not recognize it, it would replace it with a similar drive, or give you a message that you Hardware has not been recognized, and ask you whether or not you want window find it on the web, and most of time take you to the right place, if it is not too old you can try to contact manufacture and get help from them, i would like specify one thing that is very important regarding windows Vista, they come usually in 2 versions either x32 or x64, obviously 64 is more advanced one and faster but less manufactures made that kind of step to upgrade their HW drives.

Incompatability with Vista is an extremely common problem. Most computer professionals have suggested people wait a minimum of 2 years before buying Vista. I go a bit further and do not suggest Vista until ALL of your hardware is worn out, including printers and everything because older hardware/software is incompatable with Vista. Best is just going with Open source software and quit being a victim of Microsoft's overzealous marketing. www.kubuntu.org will get you an operating system superior to Microsoft's in virtually EVERY way..except marketing.
