my mom wants to take me to the mall for back to school shopping. i know we didn't have that much money so i looked for a couple of clothes for cheap that i liked

i found a auction that was going for 10 bucks that had over 20 pounds of clothes.
i showed my mom and when i showed her the pictures of the clothes she stared at it and said No like it was me asking to move away. i asked her why she said no plus i said i would pay for it.

ok all the clothes are listed as punk/emo/goth girls clothes and are all black. my mom was goth at my age and had those clothes. WHY won't she let me get them my dad hasn't seen it yet.

The clothing issue is a funny one for parents. I know that as a teenager I swore I would not have a problem with my teenagers clothing or music, but now that I have kids I can see where parents are coming from. We kind of forget what its like to be a teenager.
I would try to talk reasonably with your Mum and see what her problem is exactly (then she might just find there really isn't one). Ask her to remember what she used to wear as a teenager, tell her how important it is for you to express your individuality, and most importantly, make her see that
wearing gothic clothes is a lot better than you walking around in skimpy clothes.

When I am telling my kids not to do something, I always make myself say 'no dont do that because.......' and give a reason. That stops me from telling them no just for the sake of it, and makes me actually think about what my problem is. So maybe just sitting down and chatting to your mum will make her realise she actually has nothing to worry about. Don't get angry though, just talk maturely about it. Good luck!

You need to bargain with your mom. Tell her that the whole auction is only $10 and that you know that money is tight, also offer that when the clothes arrive you can look over all the clothes together for anything she might not find appropriate...(this may take some compromising) and this will give her veto power over anything she might really worry about you wearing... also adding the right accessories can change the tone of any outfit, so the "goth" might not end up so dark once you add a splash of color; or pair the items you buy on the auction with new items bought or already owned...

If you sit down and really try to have a conversation you may realize it isn't just the clothes bothering her.

I think you answered your question yourself. You said that your Mother was Goth at your age and is definite in not wanting you to follow in her footsteps. It must not have been a happy situation for her. Pay attention to her advice.

As long as you live with your parents it is their choice what to let you wear. Your mom is only trying to protect you from cruel kids making fun of you and from you putting yourself into a situation you can not handle by dressing like someone you are not
