It may because creative minds have gone into other field that pay much better than that of a painter or sculptor.
They are everywhere in the film world. Imagine the artists who worked on 'The Lion King' or 'Ice Age' or 'Toy Story' or the special effects artists who did the backgrounds for films like 'The Matrix.'
Even if their names aren't know to the public their artistic efforts are recognized worldwide.
Sadly, this seldom applied to fine art and fine artists.

I can't speak for anyone else, but we (my wife and I) certainly appreciate artistic minds. And as far a painters go, we put our money where our mouth is. We are collectors of contemporary fine art, and everyone who comes to our home loves the work we have bought. In fact they usually say that our 'gallery' has better art than what they see in commercial or public galleries. So who am I to argue. Art lives here.

Geeeeeeeesh this is a loaded question which calls for an equally loaded answer. As it is fact that "artistic minds" tend to be associated with artistic people, we can be seen at a basically common idea of what art is and this is where things get hairy,.......ever hear of a bar tender that got famous from his ability to ingest the babble issuing from a drunk's mouth just before closing time?....you'll proabbly say "uh.,.....no". Well thats because bar tenders dont usually get famous for being philosophers of psychologists,......but what the hell?,.I'm sure theres some bar tender somewhere that is well know for giving great advice or lending a good ear. Ever hear of a famous protitute that ever got famous for her performances?,...probably not!......but I bet that if you're creative, you've felt underappreciated a time or two, that's because we as creative folk tend to want to be appreciated for what we do as opposed to what we offer the general public as a group.........."Nobody who ever owned a million dollar painting or sculpture" didnt also have a great story to go along with the art....It's just fact. artists are really not as creative as we sometimes think we are, in fact,.....in our glamourizations of how we think we should be appreciated for, often relates to anything factual at any given moment,....Take this advice,.........a story you heard when you were young will be lots more appreciated when you're sitting in a court-room about to be given a formal divorce from your recent spouse,.....but better yet,.......20 years later, it'll be bittersweet when you come to find that the woman you divorced and had to pay all that money too?......will end up backing into your car in a grocery store parking lot and you'll most likely excuse the incident because of your attraction to her even then.....all those years later, and after you drive away and get home and go to bed?.....you'll realize who she was and you just didnt recognize her, (how irritating)..........this too is fodder for your track record of "personaility",... when you find out that "she didnt recognize you at all" but that she is just as caddy today as she ever was!..... and not as attractive now.........Ok,..if this doesnt describe to you what "creative or artistic minds are, then I just think you might look for a full time job. Life is full of events and creations that end up being "you".....and like "smokey the bear sez, only you can prevent forrest fires"?......."Only you can prevent being underappreciated." for whatever it's worth,....take a minute to laugh cuz most likely?......there's 59 other minutes in one of the other hours in your day that are just downright a pain in the *** and not at all funny......this suggests that you should laugh genuinely 12 minutes per day........what you do with the rest of your time will pretty much dictate how artistically appreciated you think you really are....despite how badly written you think this was,......it's even more poorly genuine when you realize you've had 6 ex wives......Yes, even I think I am underappreciated.

Art is generally not perceived to be a necessity, which I think is a mistake. It seems to be taken for granted, and yet who would want to live in a world without art? Art speaks to the mind and spirit. It illuminates us. It allows us to view the world through another's eyes. It takes us on journeys of the imagination and to places we would not want to experience directly. They say that money makes the world go round, but money is only a means of survival while art is about the human experience.
