Does a cake get stale after one day? Like if i bake it today and frost it, will it taste bad or crummy tommorrow? Thanks for the advice!
PS. Its not really frosting, i am topping it with 'Cool Whip.'

And this is a really hard cake to make... so I don't want it to go bad! And for a special occasion.

Won't plastic foil ruin the topping? The shape?

The cake should not go stale in one day. I worked in a bakery where they would bake the cakes, wrap them in saran wrap and ice them a day or two later. I would not frost it with Cool Whip the day before but would wrap the cake and then frost it right before you are serving it or you could frost it, then refrigerate it for a few hours and then serve it. The Cool Whip might break down if it were to sit for an entire day.

A cake, if covered, typically takes 4-5 days to go stale.
You don't want to "frost" it with cool whip, though. It's too wet. The cake will get all soggy. Put some cool whip on the pieces of cake as you serve it.

No. you can leave it out if you like it room temp. Or put it in the fridge.. But the cool whip part you might want to not use that. And I mean like bake the cake and if your baking it for a specific reason like a get together put the cool whip on that day

If you put the cool whip on it today it needs to be refrigerated if not you can cover the cake with foil and it will not get stale. retired prof cake baker. I don't recommend leaving in refrigerator for long, makes cake gummy. A few hrs at most

With cool whip you will have to keep it refrigerated.
One day should be OK. It won't get stale in one day.
But put a cake cover over it and put the cool whip on just a little before serving.

As long as a cake is good and moist to begin with, it will stay that way for several days. I would wait to put the cool whip on top right before serving it. The cool whip has a lot of liquid that tends to seperate after a while (i.e. overnight). Good luck!

As long as you cover it with a cake cover or Saran Wrap you will be ok, although I believe I would wait to put the whip cream on it right before you are ready to serve it. Whip cream seems to get runny fairly quickly even when refridgerated over night. Hope this helps.

It should be perfectly fine. Just stick some toothpicks in it and put saran wrap or tin foil over the toothpicks. If you want it to still seem like it was made that day stick it in the microwave (if it will fit) for about 6 seconds so that it is still warm when you serve it.

Make sure the cake is completely cooled before covering for overnight storage.

My mom always keeps the cake in cling wrap and it stays moist for the next day. You could even keep it fresh for longer by wrapping it good and freezing it.
Cool Whip....nice choice! :)
EDIT: Do not put the topping on until tomorrow.
