I looked it up on an Online Spanish-English dictionary, and the closet thing it gave me was "chalet," which doesn't fit the context of the story I'm reading. Based on the context, I think it might mean something like, "Come on," but I'd like to be sure.

I also thought that maybe "cha" was a conjugated verb & "le" a pronoun or something.

Chalé is a chalet... but it is also 'I wooed', from the verb 'chalar.'
Chale without the accent is imperative form of chalar: 'chale' - 'attract her!'
It is also the 1st and 3rd person subjunctive of the verb...
'Quiere que la chale' - she wants me/him to woo her.
Another possibility... '¡chale!' in Mexican slang means like 'Oh my God!' or 'No way!'... sometimes used in a more sarcastic way like 'whatever!', 'yeah right!' or the aggresive 'shut it!'... all depending on intonation and context..
And also, just like some Latin Americans write 'c' as 's' and vice-versa sometimes, Spanish speakers who speak rare non-rhotic accents often don't write 'r', so the fourth possibility is that it is actually 'charlé' (I chatted) or 'charle' (chat! as a command or subjunctive)..
But my guess would be that it is the slangy expression of disbelief.

It's an expression like "holy sh-t", you don't say, you got to be kidding and so forth.

Chale is Mexican slang for "that's enough" or
"shut up".
A while back I translated part of a song
called "Chilanga banda" whose opening lines went
Ya chale, chango chilango
Que chafa chamba te chutas
It means:
Well, shut up chilango monkey
What useless work you do.

I've heard people say "chale" in the same context as "sale," which is not a proper Spanish word, but Mexican slang for "esta bien" or OK, alright, etc.
