Is there an age requirement for participating in akc dog shows?

Kids must be 9 to 18 yrs old to do Jr. showmanship.
But to my knowledge there is no agelimit to handling a dog in reg shows. As long as the child can hanlde the dog.

There is no age requirement to show dogs in conformation or performance events. Junior showmanship is for kids that are 9 years old and not yet 18. The classes are divided by age and experience into Junior (9 and not yet 12), intermediate (12 and not yet 15), and senior (15 and not yet 18) and then Novice (have not won 3 times with competition) and Open ( have 3 wins in novice classes with competition) Once you move to open, you will not ever return to novice even when you move up in age groups. My daughter got her 3 novice wins at 9 years old, and will be in open the rest of her jr career.

Age for the handler or the dog?

The dogs can enter shows starting on their 6-month birthday.

For people, any age can show a dog. I've seen 4-year-old kids doing it sometimes. If you're interested in Junior Showmanship, it's for kids aged 9-18.

There are junior showing categories for teens and even younger I believe. Check with AKC for all rules and regs.

I think the earliest they start is 12weeks for the pups, for the human 18 and older.
