No saltwater won't help the wound and will sting a great deal. Depending on the size of the wound, you may want to consult with your vet to make sure it is manageable at home. If it isn't, your dog may require stitches, so it is better to check with your vet.

If it is something that doesn't need stitches then wash out the wound with warm water and once you have done that , use some hydrogen peroxide to get anything left over. If is in a spot that can be bandaged, you should put some neosoprin on the wound and tape it up. A wound will always heal better if it is covered and as well, then your dog is unable to lick at it. Just make sure that you don't tape it too tight.

If it is in a spot that can't be bandaged, try to keep it clean by washing the area everyday with warm water and hopefully it will soon start to heal on its own. Do not put anything on the wound if it is in a spot that your dog can lick off, unless you know the ingredients and know that it will not harm your dog if ingested.

I hope that helps!

I know ours had a hot spot on his side that he kept biting and it got really bad. He loves to get in the pool and the chlorine seems to help it (as of course his meds we had to get him). So, I don't know about the salt water, but if you can get him in a swimming pool???
