No, you can not "live" in National and State parks. They are public lands for the use of everyone. Some Parks have designated caping areas and some even have what they call "Full Hook-ups" which means they have Electrical, Water and Sewer/Septic service for those sites, but there is usually a Maximum Time you can stay in one park for consecutive use. The rates vary depending on the improvements and the particular park and sometimes vary with the seasons, but most State and National campsites I have used run about 10-15 dollars a day. Some low usage parks will allow Quasi-permenant sites for people that volunteer to act as Park Hosts, but this is usually a seasonal thing.

Ret.Sarge is right ........ANY beach in France would be prime areas for unexploded artillery shells to German Teller Mines. I took a tour of the Normandy beach area as part of a tour (12 years ago) and there are literally hundreds of area that are fenced in and posted with warnings of unexploded ordinance. The adjacent beaches and inland areas for several miles in-country were also posted/restricted for the obvious.Tourists accidentally setting off explosives.

Like Ret.Sarge I'd love to have access myself, but despite what I may find, I don't have a death wish.

I have to ask. Why French beaches ??

I wish I knew the answer but I also wish I could go metal detecting there. Only problem could be accidentally finding some un-exploded ordnance. I am sure there are millions of artifacts and personal belongings still left behind from WWII.

If you're near a big city, they may have a French Consulate where you could inquire.

Where ever there is unexploded shells or whatever it most likely isn't a good idea. On the beaches where people go the women are topless so you might find it hard to concentrate on your metal detector............O O................
