In this county the impounds are sold by the tow yards who pick them up and therre are good deals to be had. The cars that are siezed by court order are sold at auction and same thing applies but usually is as is where is in either case, so if you do not know much about cars take someone who does

RE:
Buying a Used Police Impound Car?
I am on the search for a new car. I came across the option of getting it from police impound. Personal experiences or general advice would all be helpful.

Personally I would say no to a police impound.
Reason behind it is because the cars that do get impounded do NOT have a clear title or good track record. If you know how to fix up cars it might be a good deal but if not you probably will be spending much more on repairs. If you buy a car from impound consider keeping it until its dead because it will have no trade value.

Police impound vehicles are generally safe to buy. Certainly no more dangerous than from any other source. These are cars that were confiscated by the police due to any number of reasons. It's very similar in nature to buy cars that were reposessed by the bank.

Depends on the impound. If the car was just towed in, it usually has a problem. Most people are not going to loose a car because they left it parked in the wrong place. If it was impounded for Illegal activities then they are usually in pretty good shape. Make sure you are getting a clear title to it when you purchase it.

It may be a good deal, then maybe not. Go to the auctions, and watch the experienced bidders. They will quit about salvage value or a little above for a fairly late model car.
If the car turns out good, they can make a lot of money on resale, but if it turns out bad, they don't lose anything either.

no on the police impounds..
are you looking for NEW NEW or new to you?
a better alternative to new new, is 2 years old new. The 30% dealer markup is gone and you still have a new car.
hey have you looked into a slightly used VW Golf TDi? hey, 40-50 MPG is BETTER than a Hybrid!!
