I put up two filmy shower curtains to add color and to soften the look of an all-white bathroom. My towels pick up a color in the shower curtains and it all looks great. I used a spring-loaded rod (as another responder suggested). With metal rolling curtain rings, I've had no problem moving the curtains. The curtains also helped cut down on the echo the bathroom seemed to have with all the hard surfaces. And, yes, some days, you just want to feel that you are cocooned in the shower.

You sound like a belt & suspenders kind of girl.
I'm guessing the glass is clear rather than frosted. Yeah, privacy is nice sometimes. Does the door swing in or out? I think it would look best to hang the curtain on the outside. But if the door swings out, that would be awkward. Putting the curtain inside might look a little funny.
But think of the decorating possibilities. You could change the curtain whenever you want to whatever you want.

I have never seen a curtain over a door and it would be difficult to maneuver in and out of the door if you did. If you want more privacy, choose the watered glass instead of the clear. But I wouldn't want a curtain. It just wouldn't look right either.

Actually, no it is not weird though I can see where he might think so. I would do it for color. I don't have a picture, however use a size curtain panel for a window that is sized larger than the actual door and will give a more custom look. If you use a shower curtain, it may not hide the entire door and then it might appear odd.

Get a spring action shower curtain rod, place it in front of the shower door and then buy a beautiful shower curtain. The only suggestion I would have would be is to have a tie back with a magnetic hook to hold the tie back, so if you want privacy you can have it, or if you or he doesn't it will be decorative but stationary.

I have one in my house. I like the privacy too. Just in case the bathroom door is opened, you know?

It is not weird at all, I have actually been to a couple of homes that had that type of set up and it looked really good.
I say if you want to do it then you should.
