Birds will chew wood and there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. That is simply part of their nature, and in time, they will most likely reduce the perch and anything else to dust. It is good for them to have something wood to chew on, as they need activity. I would suggest you get them a few small toys, say one or two, with wood pieces in it. She might focus her attention to the toys, if she likes them. You can replace the perch with a small concrete perch, which are virtually indestructible. Her chewing doesn't mean she is about to lay an egg though.

OMG, chewing is NOT a part of what they do, they are chewing because of their diet. The diet causes them a disease known as Fatty Liver Disease. It causes an over growth of the beak and nails. Because of this they must chew to keep their beak ground down so they can eat.

Change the diet they will stop chewing to keep their beak in shape so they can eat.

Are most of you this stupid, or just uneducated??????

No really????

Seeds are NOT a proper diet and never have been. Since when do birds eat seeds in the wild? Millet does not grow in australia!!! They eat insects as their main staple in the wild. Or don't you realize that!!!

What you are feeding them is pure millet which is not grown in the wild, it's grown in California and is nothing but high fat. The liver can not digest the high fat content so it throws it back into the body cavity and causes the over growth of the beak and nails. Which is why you see species with fatty tumors especially keets, and toos. Oh that just happens to be australians species of birds. LOL..

I have been in australia for 7 years studing these species. Time and time again they DO NOT eat SEEDS.

Its normal for them to chew wood. I have two females, and theyre always chewing wood. What you could do is get them a cuttle bone, or this may seemed farfetched, but my birds love this, go to the petstore, and get them something called coconut. Its multicolored coconut pieces. It may be in the small mammal section since its okay for both birds and small mammals. There will be a pitcure of a green parakeet on the packaging. My birds absoltuely love it and they actually beg for it.

And I dont mind giving it to them since its fruit.
