Looks like you made an important discovery Arnold ! Could you post the passage and chapter #`s etc where God says they must remain celibate ?
Actually , it doesn`t say that ANYWHERE in the bible . The closest it comes is something like this :
"You should remain celibate in order to better concentrate on doing God`s work . If you cannot remain celibate, then you should marry " . This is NOT the exact way it`s worded in the bible , but the meaning is the same .

Silly joke! The Bible said nothing about celibacy.
In fact, the Bible says all clergy should be married.
It's a matter of discipline under canon law.
It started in the 7th century for Catholic priests.
It could be changed with the stroke of a pen.
In fact, we have several married priests already.
Most of them converted from other churches.
