Most tourists head to the "Silk Market" - full of cheap knock-off clothes, silks, bags, watches, etc.

Other than that, if you body is small (like many Chinese people), then you'll find small shops selling nice clothes in most streets. (Chinese fashion is cool, but somewhat different to western fashion -- you might find something you love, or you might hate it). If you're from the US or Europe, most of these Chinese stores will seem quite cheap - things are only expensive in China if you buy authentic western brands.

Find a tailor.
There are lots and lots of competent tailors here who can make both Chinese- and Western-style clothes that are custom-fitted to you with your choice of fabric, at a price that rivals clothes bought in a store. Turnaround times can be very quick...a day or two depending on your order.

Head for the "Knock Off" market. Ask any tour person or hotel concierge ... They know where it is.

Copies of EVERYTHING are available ... well, almost everything.
