The new 80gig PS3 will have emulation software as opposed to an emotion chip that the 60gig has. What does this mean and is it good or bad?

They're for the PS2 games. The emotion chip installed 60gig one will run all PS2 ganes fine. The emulation one has some problems with some games, (you can find out which on the PS website). Although, through firmware updates, Sony are improving those that don't work.
Whether it's good or bad purely depends on how much you want to play PS2 games, none of the other functions of the PS3 are affected in any way.

The pros of actually having the 20 buck chip of the PS3 is full backward compatibility.

Most games will work with the emulator, but more games will either work or work better with the actual chip.

In conclusion: if you had a PS2, get the 60 Gig (the HD is user replaceable. If you didn't then go ahead for the 80 GB.

If you like to play all your old PS2 games then get the 60GB PS3 as it is more compatible with PS2 games, you can always put a bigger HDD in it (even with an 80GB HDD you will still want a bigger one) so you might as well save a bit of extra money on the 60GB version and put it towards getting a much bigger HDD
