Noah was ridicules because he was building an ark in the middle of the desert. He told men that if they did not repent from their sins, God was going to cause rain to fall from heaven and flood the earth.

Why did they refuse to believe him?

Because it wasn't raining at the time. Seeing is believing. Like today, people don't believe in God because they can't see him.

It had never rained before it was a tropical hot house watered like it does in the forest the dew comes up at night and waters the plants. It was not a desert the whole earth was beautiful before it was destroyed by the flood waters.
to day there is people preaching it is the time of the end and another great tribulation is upon us and they laugh at that to.
Matthrew 24:21 tells about this great tribulation and that few will be saved.

People back in those days are the same as we are today. They didn't believe what Noah said because there had never been a flood before. These days, if somebody was to say to you "Houses are going to start flying in the sky tomorrow", wouldn't you laugh since you've never seen a flying house before? Wouldn't you have that person committed to an asylum?
It's hard for most people to believe in something with no proof or evidence.

For the same reason there are doubters today and mockers of God. Jesus said the last days would be as in the day of Noah, in other words very evil.

People didn't believe him because they had forgotten about God - which is why the flood happened in the first place!

Because nobody believes people who say things like that. The sky is falling. There's going to be a flood...Vesuvius is going to explode.

Even if they didn't believe the whole "flood is coming" they still should have understood the need of repentance. Then again...Pride does tend to make people pretty stupid.
