I really don't want to be any darker, but I have to be in the sun for long periods of time.

sunblock - the higher the SPF, the more protection you get. 60 is the highest but that is a bit of overkill. An SPF 30 should meet most people's needs -- it gives you 30 times more time in the sun before burning. That's a pretty solid sun protection.

Cover up. Wear long sleeve blouses, long trousers and a hat with a wide brim. Use an umbrella to keep the sun off your face. Use 50 factor sunscreen to keep the sun off your hands, or wear light cotton gloves.
I am very tan myself, even in the winter. If I don't want to turn black every summer (no offense to anyone of the black persuasion intended), I have to play the vampire and stay inside during the day, or cover up completely when I go out.
Best wishes.

sun-screen or wear clothes that arent hot but are thin. They have perfect shirts that cover your arms at american aparrel. And for your face try oil free sunscreens. The other kinds are way to oily. hat and sunglasses work too.
